The Clever Woman of the Family

An opinionated young woman seeks to prove her cleverness as she searches for a purpose in life.

Unsatisfied with the rigid gender roles of her small seaside community, Rachel Curtis yearns to use her cleverness to find a purpose in life. Seeking to make the world a better place for women, she dives into intellectual battles, writes opinionated articles, and dreams of liberating oppressed women from lace-making and marriage. Acting as her foils are Lady Temple, a widow with an army of small children, and Miss Williams, a young woman left deformed and scarred by a horrible accident in her youth.
